Starting from the state of researching around RFE topics we pre-established some observations:

Dispersion of studies, mostly historical; memoirs and biographies prevail; less problem analyses (besides studies bringing out some facts from the genealogy and structure of RFE/RL, showing wider context of its functioning – e.g. the mission of media in the Cold War or the history of emigration and resistance opposition ect.);
One can observe that the studies on the polish section of RFE prevail (e.g. recently edited monograph about surveillance and soviet secret services’ fighting against the Radio by P. Machcewicz);
There are very few studies in the multi-medial and interdisciplinary mode;
Generally we lack systematic and collective studies in the form of interdisciplinary project, involving researchers of different disciplines (not only historians, politologists, sociologists, but also anthropologists of media, philosophers of language, journalists ect.);
Referring to RFE archive materials – schedules and sources from RFE Research Section are still waiting for the systematic analyses.

Since noticed the absence of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty issue in a context of so called “European discourses”, we wish to arouse wider interest in this point, addressing to potential research partners from member states of European Union. Our aim is thus to perform together a research project concerning historical rule and cultural merit of RFE/RL, and propose it for Seventh Framework Program (ERC Starting Grants) designed by European Commission.
